ABOUT US

Action 4 Dogs is located in the heart of Midlothian and only a short drive from Edinburgh. Founder Maxwell Muir has grown up around dogs from childhood and confesses that he can’t imagine a home complete without one. Max currently owns two German Shepherd dogs and has owned a Dalmatian, Lurchers, a Whippet and a Collie. His passion for dogs led him to study canine psychology and enrol in various training courses in order to better understand dogs. Action 4 Dogs was subsequently founded to provide various dog related services in and around the Lothian area.

'In this stressful day and age the balance and relaxation I get from walking my dogs in the beautiful countryside of the Lothians is an essential part of my daily needs. Taking in the clean fresh air and spending time bonding with my dogs gives me a privilege that I am constantly grateful for, and when my dogs are content and balanced then it is conveyed to me also.

I believe that for dogs to live with their owners in peace and harmony, they need a well structured and balanced routine consisting of exercise, discipline and loving care. This is how their needs are fulfilled. My job is to empower you, the owners, with the knowledge and tools that are required to help your dogs and yourselves achieve this standard so that you get the best relationship possible from your dog.

For some people walking the dog has become a chore that many do not relish. Today's busy lifestyle takes up more of peoples time and the dogs' needs are sometimes reduced or cut out all together. This causes the owner and their dogs stressful lives.

'In order to understand dogs better for myself and to help others, I decided to engage myself in what has been a never ending course of self education  in 'How our Dogs Think'. I do not believe in using forceful methods to teach our dogs to comply but prefer to give people an understanding in how dogs communicate with each other and with us. By teaching people to read the signals that dogs give, we learn to understand our dogs and are in a much better situation to help them.'
