'Both Dogs and people get great rewards from living together. By bringing a dog into your home, you are bringing a true part of nature into your life. The happiest and balanced dogs are those which are exercised, trained and understand their place within our homes.'

ABOUT US

Action 4 Dogs is located in the heart of Midlothian and only a short drive from Edinburgh. Founder Maxwell Muir has grown up around dogs from childhood and confesses that he can’t imagine a home complete without one. Max currently owns two German Shepherd dogs and has owned a Dalmatian, Lurchers, a Whippet and a Collie. His passion for dogs led him to study canine psychology and enrol in various training courses in order to better understand dogs. Action 4 Dogs was subsequently founded to provide various dog related services in and around the Lothian area.

'In this stressful day and age the balance and relaxation I get from walking my dogs in the beautiful countryside of the Lothians is an essential part of my daily needs. Taking in the clean fresh air and spending time bonding with my dogs gives me a privilege that I am constantly grateful for, and when my dogs are content and balanced then it is conveyed to me also.

I believe that for dogs to live with their owners in peace and harmony, they need a well structured and balanced routine consisting of exercise, discipline and loving care. This is how their needs are fulfilled. My job is to empower you, the owners, with the knowledge and tools that are required to help your dogs and yourselves achieve this standard so that you get the best relationship possible from your dog.

In order to understand dogs better for myself and to help others, I decided to engage myself in what has been a never ending course of self education in 'How our Dogs Think'.  I do not believe in using forceful methods to teach our dogs to comply but prefer to teach them by using methods based on kindness and respect. In doing this we gain the dog's trust and its recognition of our good leadership. This is the beginning of a truly bonding and secure relationship with our dogs.'

- Maxwell Muir -

Dogs were an early influence on Max's life. He grew up in the company of hunting dogs and his father regularly took him out with the many Lurchers, Salukis and coursing Whippets that they kept. His passion and bond with dogs came from as far back as he can remember and since then he has owned a variety of breeds. Max started out as a Pet Dog Obedience Instructor and on a quest to further his knowledge and deepen his understanding he studied Canine Psychology with the Animal Care College. Max is a Member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT 01088) and also a Member & Country Representative for Scotland of Pet Dog Trainers of Europe (PDTE F092).

He is currently furthering his studies with Compass Education. He has the Compass Diploma in Canine Aggression and is currently studying the Advanced Diploma in Canine Behaviour Management. He believes in learning from the very best that the world of dogs has to offer and in his endeavour to achieve excellence he brings speakers from across the globe to share their knowledge with the public and others in the field of animal behaviour. He continues his own education by regularly attending seminars and workshops to further his understanding of dogs. His real passion lies with the study of wolves and other wild dogs of the world and one day he hopes to make a journey to visit and study them in their natural habitats.
